In the case when access control installation includes more than a few doors and it is expected to frequently change the authorizations of the system users, the use of standalone devices may be burdensome. In such cases, it is recommended to consider the use of solutions offered under the standard access control (RACS 4) or advanced access control solutions (RACS 5)

Advanced Access Control
Advanced Access Control

RACS 5 -Roger Assa Abloy Advanced access control, also known as enterprise-class access control, is intended mainly for medium, big and large facilities, where the role of the access control system is not limited only to people traffic control but is extended with many additional functionalities.

The most important is the possibility of integration with other systems operating in the facility. There are two scenarios of such integration: first where external systems are integrated into the software managing the access control system, and vice versa, integrating the AC system in external management platforms. The systems most often integrated with the AC system include the building automation system (BMS), the intruder alarm system, the fire protection system, the CCTV system, and recently, more and more often, IT platforms increasing the comfort and productivity of the facility users.

In many cases, an advanced access control system becomes the main IT system containing a database of facility users that can be used by other building systems. Therefore, an enterprise-class system must offer a so ware interface with which other systems can not only get data from the access control system but also control it.

Another typical requirement for systems of this class is the management of access to parking lots, lifts, and equipment, while access to the equipment can be realized only in a logical form, by checking the authorization to the object by the facility personnel or physical, as is the case with keys and other items stored in electronic key cabinets.

The software managing advanced access control systems should enable multi-access and also offer the possibility of operating the system from the level of mobile applications and a web browser.

Installation of an enterprise-class access control system requires a thorough analysis of the investor’s expectations, followed by the system design process. Management of this type of system is carried out by security services or industry specialists employed within the organization in which the system operates or is delegated to external companies. Advanced systems provide great functional possibilities and usually offer the possibility of their expansion through the use of software integration mechanisms built into the system. Both the installation and use of enterprise-class systems place higher requirements at the design, installation, and use stage.

The RACS 5 system has been designed as a solution that meets the expectations of advanced enterprise-class access control projects. It is a Polish solution developed and developed by the company’s engineers. This system draws on the experience gained during nearly 20 years of designing and manufacturing access control systems.
